Tom Birdsall

Tom has had an extensive professional career in the seafood industry, principally in the wild harvest sector, across New Zealand, Australia and Argentina. As the current Chair of the Deepwater Council and an associate Director of Seafood New Zealand, Tom has substantial governance and leadership experience.

Tom has worked with fisheries certification systems for many years both directly in certification project governance and administration, and also as a provider of certified product. He is knowledgeable about the pivotal role science plays in sustainability standards, as well as its application at the fisheries assessment level.
